About
The Research Centre

"Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine is transforming the future of medicine. Not only does it help us understand how our bodies are made, it also offers the opportunity to generate cells / tissues for disease treatment. One day many currently intractable human maladies, such as stroke, spinal cord injuries and ageing problems like glaucoma, will have a stemcell solution to replace or repair damaged or degenerated tissues and five the patients a new lease of life."

- Professor Paul K.H. Tam, Founding Director of Dr. Li Dak-Sum Research Centre

The Dr. Li Dak-Sum Research Centre, The University of Hong Kong – Karolinska Institutet Collaboration in Regenerative Medicine (“the Research Centre”) was established in 2015, with the generous donation of Dr. Li Dak-Sum. It aims at establishing a cutting edge research environment under stem cells and regenerative medicine. It specifically fosters interdisciplinary researches between Hong Kong and Karolinska Institutet by bringing together scientists from different faculties of the University of Hong Kong and those from other institutions. The Research Centre's long-term strategy is to advance research in regenerative medicine and stem cell biology especially in but not restricted to neural, liver and cardiac diseases.
